Once you've got the basics, it's time to pick your first project. It's a good idea to start with something small and flat or that doesn't require a lot of shaping.

If you are a novice, the best way to start is to follow pattern instructions. Look up for patterns in magazines. Tejer Bien´s Blog have some simple projects for you. Nevertheless before you start you have always to knit a gauge (in the case of scarfs is not necessary).
